Community Coffee

Community Coffee is a coffee roasting and retail company based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA. Founded in 1919, it is the largest family-owned coffee company in America. They use 100% Arabica beans. The company has developed partnerships with growers in South America and Africa.

It was the first coffee company to use vacuum sealed bags and percolators. Most of their bags are dark red/burgundy in color, while the "red bag" denotes the bright red bags in which the New Orleans Blend is packaged. New Orleans Blend which is coffee and chicory, is available in grocery stores and is brewed in the coffeehouses. However, they do not carry New Orleans Blend for purchase, but instead have a variety of all the blends, varietals, and flavored beans the company is currently producing, as well as bags of 100% chicory so that customers can create their own "New Orleans Blend."

History

The Saurage family of Louisiana has owned and operated the Company. In 1919, Henry Norman "Cap" Saurage discovered the secret of making this great-tasting coffee in his country store in Dixie, Louisiana, near Baton Rouge. He named his coffee in honor of all of his friends. In 1924, he closed the store and converted his backyard barn into a mill, using coffee beans purchased from a local roaster.

There are many varieteies that are offered. They can be bought either as whole beans or already grounded. They have over 75% market share in the New Orleans area and are sold throughout the Southeastern United States.
